My Approach

I use a combination of therapeutic techniques to help clients heal emotionally and psychologically, while achieving a greater sense of wellbeing. I believe that every person has an innate ability to grow and heal; however, sometimes the cards you are dealt make it extremely difficult to get there on your own. I’m here to help you move beyond that which is no longer serving you. From there we can uncover your authentic self and your inherent ability to heal and grow.

My practice as a counsellor is to illuminate the strengths you already have, and support you as you grow and release what no longer serves you. Along the way, I will provide tools and guidance from my own professional and personal experience.

I am trained in the following:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

  • Internal Family Systems

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

  • Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)

  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy

How I use these techniques depends on who my client is, what works best for them, and what they are needing. Each client comes in with a unique history and with unique needs and so I tailor my approach to what will best help each client. I also understand that not every person who enters counselling knows what they need yet. Whether you have a strong sense of what you’d like out of counselling, or a vague sense that something is off and you’d like some help to determine what that is, we can determine what your road to wellbeing can look like, together.

"Wellbeing": We typically don’t hear this term as often as “pain” or “mental illness,” but achieving a greater sense of wellbeing/wellness is the goal of counselling. Wellbeing can mean something different to everyone.

Here’s some common definitions:

  • Feeling more authentically myself, and comfortable in my skin

  • Finding greater meaning in life

  • Having fulfilling relationships

  • Feeling safe

  • Feeling whole

For some, these ideas may resonate. For others, none of these examples will seem quite right. Maybe right now you can’t imagine what it would feel like to feel well. We can explore this together and discover what wellbeing will look like for you. You deserve to have a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling. You deserve to feel whole. I’m here to help you get there.

About me

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC # 17165) and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) with the BCACC. I have a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology (MCP) from Adler University. I am also an EMDR Certified Therapist with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and an EMDR Consultant in Training.

I enjoy continuously learning and exploring what it means to be a human being. My research interests have included:

  • How experiencing traumatic events affects the nervous system

  • The connection between Postpartum depression and trauma, and how this impacts romantic relationships

  • Social anxiety: Causes and treatments

  • The connection between childhood trauma and adult social anxiety

I came to a career in counselling after a long healing journey of my own. I have had my own past experiences with trauma and resultant emotional regulation issues. My personal experiences combined with my professional training both deeply inform my work and the ways I’m able to connect with my clients.

I am continuously in awe of my clients and their abilities to grow and heal. I feel very privileged to share these experiences with people I work with.

When I’m not counselling, I enjoy being in the forest, surfing, dancing, spending time with my family and friends, and curling up with my cat and a good book.
